The astrology forecast for the week of May 9, 2022 through May 15, 2022 features two planetary aspects (Sun square Saturn and Sun sextile Neptune), Mercury turning retrograde in Gemini, and Jupiter moving out of Pisces and into Aries.

This week, the cosmic juggernaut Jupiter moves out of Pisces (he will return later in the year) and into Aries. In astrology, Jupiter is the planet of expansion – he makes our lives grow bigger, better, bolder, and hopefully wiser. When Jupiter moves into a new sign, he expands the natural tendencies of the sign, and since he is moving into Aries, get ready for a giant dose of get up and go.

The sign of Aries is extremely individualistic and concerned with matters related to the self. Some keywords associated with Aries are initiating, energetic, forceful, and courageous. When Jupiter moves through the sign of the ram, he will expand our lives by pushing our individual selves forward. So, this is an excellent time to go after whatever you want in life, whether career related, your personal goals, or your inner desires. Jupiter gives us the ability to make things happen, and the drive and determination to succeed.

Since Mercury rules Gemini, you can expect this retrograde to be a doozy.

The Moon continues its trip through Virgo and forms tense aspects to Mars and Neptune. Mild disagreements with others may occur during the early morning hours. Be as proactive as possible, and avoid reacting to other people’s issues.  Later in the day, the Moon opposes Neptune. You may experience some mild confusion, and it’s best not to make any decisions at this time.

The Moon moves into Libra during the early morning hours and opposes Jupiter, Venus and trines Mercury. Although this is not the best day for heavy lifting, it’s an excellent day to spend some time enjoying your life and having some good old-fashioned fun. The Moon continues to move through Libra and forms a lovely trine to Saturn in Aquarius. Yesterday was about fun in the Sun, but today is all about taking care of business.  Make sure you take time out today to take care of your duties and responsibilities. Legal matters may also be an issue.

The Moon moves into Scorpio, the sign of the upcoming lunar eclipse that happens on Monday. Expect intense emotions to surface, and problems from the past may need resolution. Try to be as non-reactive as possible when dealing with others, because they may be potentially volatile.

  8. If you do travel, don’t take anything of importance or value. Only bring items that you do not care if they are lost or stolen.
  9. Expect people from the past to resurface.  However, once they crawl out of whatever cavern they came from, proceed with caution.
  10. Back up all electronic devices.
  11. Avoid buying an automobile.

Over the past week, the focus has been on inner truths, and with Mercury going direct, you will face facts that may be radically different than your “truth”. Reconciling these two facts is important, because you can use knowledge and lessons learned to make your life better once Mercury slides back into Aquarius. This week, Mercury joins the love goddess (Venus) by turning retrograde in Aquarius on Friday morning. Mercury will remain retrograde until February 3, 2022.

At its root, the sign of Aquarius is about how we can improve our lives.  Aquarius is about progress and pushing society forward, rather than staying stuck in the present or being bound to the past. Mercury moving through Aquarius augurs a time when we should focus on areas where we can improve our lives or focus on what needs to be fixed or repaired. Mercury turning retrograde in Aquarius helps us look at the decisions and choices we have made over the past three months that may be preventing our growth. This gives us the chance to course correct if necessary.  The silver lining is that with Mercury being retrograde, we can see the areas that need to be fixed easier.

Mercury retrogrades before it can complete its conjunction to Saturn, but it will remain within orb for the next week. Mercury conjoined to Saturn is frustrating and can lead to negative mindsets. It may be difficult to communicate and express yourself to others. So, try to push away negative thoughts as they surface, and you may need to practice some self-care to manage your emotions.

The New Moon in Libra occurs on Wednesday, October 6. Although ordinarily, a New Moon in Libra would be an excellent time to attract a new relationship, Mercury is ‘retched out,’ and Venus (the ruler of Libra) is in her detriment in Scorpio. So instead, use this New Moon to create new paradigms within your current relationships, which are not limited to romantic ones.

If you are currently single, you can make a list of all the attributes you would like out of a mate and do cleansing magic to signify your desire for a fresh start. If you are in a relationship, you can use the New Moon to reset (such a lovely Mercury RX word) the energies and create a more fulfilling dynamic that will help improve the relationship’s overall health. In other relationships, you can modify how you work with the New Moon based on the needs of that relationship. The key is formulating new and productive ways to make them healthier.

However, this energy is perfect for creative projects that need vision and inspiration.  On the other hand, the Sun forms a productive trine to Saturn.  The Sun trine Saturn is ordinarily a great day to be disciplined and focus on the structures in your life. Everyone needs a foundation to live a productive life, and now is an excellent time to examine the things in your life that promote your individual growth.

The key for today is finding balance (such a Libra word) between both worlds. It’s good to let go, play, and forget about the real world, but we still need to take care of our responsibilities and obligations when necessary. If you’ve been working too hard, taking some time to relax and smell the roses may be required. But, if you’ve been lax and unfocused, you may want to step up your game.

Mercury Retrograde in Gemini – May 29, 2021 – June 22, 2021

Mercury, the planet of communication, goes into trickster mode when he reverses course on May 28, 2021, at 6:34 PM EST.

So, I’ll give you a chance to scream and mutter before I give you the “Astro-Tea.”

Now that we have had a momentary fit, and the banshees have gone to wail elsewhere, let’s dig in…

Mercury Rx Dirty Dozen! Tips and Tricks to Wrangling the Trickster God

Let’s begin with the recommendations (Notice I didn’t use the lists of should or should not?  Mainly because we should never should on ourselves).

  1. Make sure you go over anything contractual thoroughly.  Make sure all the i’s are dotted, and all the t’s are crossed. If you can get away with it, wait until after the retrograde is over (June 22) to sign on the dotted line. 
  2. Avoid starting anything new.  New projects tend to have communication problems and mishaps when initiated during this process.
  3. Put a watch on your tongue.  (If it is not worth saying, don’t say it)
  4. Check your vehicles for any potential problems.  Before Mercury goes retrograde is the best time for a service call.
  5. Avoid buying real estate or renting apartments.  Usually, this means you are just going to move again during a future Mercury Rx.
  6. Using mail delivery services that offer tracking and insurance – especially now since the Post Office has still not recovered from the pandemic.
  7. Check, recheck, and check again any travel plans you have or appointments that are on the books.
  8. If you do travel, don’t take anything of importance or value. Only bring items that you do not care if they are lost or stolen.
  9. Expect people from the past to resurface.  However, once they do crawl out of whatever cavern they came from, proceed with caution.
  10. Back up all electronic devices.
  11. Avoid buying an automobile. 
  12. Mercury Rx is an excellent time to scour places (online and offline) for great deals!

Now, that is some list.  But, if you want to avoid the most annoying tricks Mercury has up his sleeve, it is wise to pay close attention and organize (Mercury loves that word) accordingly.

The Astro-Tea

Mercury is the planet of travel, commercial matters, business transactions, and communication for those of you not in the know.  Three to four times a year, Mercury (and he is the only planet that retrogrades that frequently) begins to move backward through the zodiac, at least from the visual perspective of the Earth. This is known as Mercury Retrograde or abbreviated Mercury Rx.

This go around, Mercury retrogrades in Gemini, the sign he rules. Now, some may say that is a good thing, but in my experience, planets that go retrograde in their sign can be more intense; you can expect that Mercury will serve up more tricks this retrograde season.  The mutable signs – Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces, need to be cautious because Mercury forms challenging aspects to your signs.  For Aries, Leo, Libra, and Aquarius, you will still receive plenty of tricks, but they will not have as tough of an impact.  Finally, signs in aversion to Gemini (Taurus, Cancer, Scorpio, and Capricorn) may have the most challenging ride because it is difficult to create a relationship with a planet you cannot see you may need to always stay on guard.

Mercury Rx square Neptune

As if Mercury retrograde was not bad enough, Mercury is applying to a problematic aspect to Neptune. Mercury square Neptune is a highly confusing aspect, and at times you may find it difficult to think clearly and unable to form the right words. People may misinterpret what you say, and equally, your ability to understand them will be challenging.  Most importantly, take any information you receive with a grain of salt because ‘the truth’ can be somewhat elusive while this aspect is active.  Try your hardest to be clear and concise with everything you say.

Mercury Rx conjoins Venus

Mercury also retrogrades close to a conjunction with Venus, the love goddess. Since Mercury Rx has a reputation for wanting to “run it back” (that’s hip-speak for repeat things), you can expect past relationships to resurface. Although the latest episode of “Return of the X” may be exhilarating, usually the same problems surface.  There is a purpose for this: Mercury wants to see if you learned the lesson the first time around, or do you need to go around the mountain of pain and heartbreak once again?

Hopefully, I have not terrified you to the point that you are ready to run to your bunker. Mercury retrograde does serve an essential purpose.  He allows you to review (he loves words that begin with re) and reflect on the past three months and take note of what has worked for you and where you may need to change your game plan. Additionally, if you have made some choices, you would like to re-do (notice that re), now would be the time to decide what changes you would like to make and act once Mercury goes direct on June 22.

As a final note, Mercury in Gemini likes things fast-paced.  He doesn’t stand still and can seem frantic at times. If you feel like you are on the wrong side of a mental hurricane, take some time and slow down. Take a break from the noise whenever you can.  And, if something annoys you (I’ll have to limit my social media time), stay away from it.

Wait for it…

I dread when Mercury goes retrograde, and not because of the annoying little problems that occur during the period when the trickster planet decides to backstep through the zodiac as they are bound to happen.

No, it’s the endless memes, complaints, and everyone blaming every problem on earth on Mercury.  In many ways, it reminds me of people that blame Satan on every single problem in their lives – even the ones they CAUSED.  It’s exhausting for astrologers, and unfortunately, the information that is shared on social media is more Cosmo and Allure magazines than anything that resembles astrology.

Yes, Mercury is going to retrograde, and it happens on Halloween at 27 degrees of Scorpio.  Mercury will reverse course and go back through the sign of Scorpio before stationing again at 11 Scorpio on November 20th.  You may want to check your charts and see if you have anything in the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, or Aquarius because your chart will be highly sensitive to Mercury’s movements.

Mercury in Scorpio is not the trickster he usually is in more fiery and airy signs, instead he probes beneath the surface often brings up the sewage of our past in order for us to challenge, integrate, and transform past traumas and compulsions that may plague you.  Mercury as the psychopomp is about revealing the truth, not in a literal sort of way, but instead provides you with personal truths that can ultimately change your understanding of life.

However, the biggest benefit of Mercury retrograde involves his reflection capabilities.  Over the next three weeks, you have an opportunity to look at the events since the last Mercury retrograde (end of July) and see if you need to make corrections or modifications to the choices that you have made.  Mercury retrograde periods give us a chance to alter course and define what we can personally do to make improvements in our lives.  So, if you have had some major upsets or major challenges that have frustrated you, if you do the inner reflective work, you can see where your personal choices have led you down the wrong path, and how you can get headed down the right one once again.  Remember, this is not about judgment, we all make mistakes and we can all course correct, it’s about learning from experiences and using that information in order to live the best life we possibly can.

Mercury Transits

Here are some hot spots to look for while Mercury is retrograde:

November 9, 2019 – Mercury sextile Pluto – Pluto gives you the ability to dig deep and reveal the root of problems that may be nagging you.  This aspect gives us the ability to become our own personal detectives and get to the truth.  It’s also a great time to do trauma work or to explore areas of your life you would ordinarily avoid.

November 11, 2019 – The Sun conjunct Mercury – The Sun is about our sense of individuality and our destiny.  When Mercury retrograde conjoins the Sun, we can often get intuitive flashes of what our destiny is meant to be, and it just comes out of the blue.  I once had a client who struggled with her job for months and months, and when Mercury retrograde conjoined the Sun in her 10th house, she realized that she was bored with her job and that her own boredom and happiness with her line of work was unconsciously creating her struggles.  Watch the events that happen between November 10 – November 12 closely.

November 13, 2019 – Mercury sextile Saturn/Mercury trine Neptune – We get a two for one special that will be active from November 12-November 14.  First up is Mercury sextile Saturn, which is great for business activities and analyzing your business and career status over the past few months.  It’s also a great time to make new plans to implement once Mercury goes direct.  Next is Mercury trine Neptune, which will get your creative juices flowing, which you can use on business or personal related projects.  Spirituality and inner work can be done while Mercury and Neptune are doing their cosmic dance.

November 20, 2019 – Mercury goes direct – This can be as challenging as when it first goes retrograde.  Expect communication problems, technical snafus, travel issues, and other general annoyances to occur. Yet, also look forward to things slowly improving in time for the holidays.

Your Personal Mercury Retrograde

Read for both your sun sign and your rising sign, if you know it.  

Aries:  Mercury is going retrograde in your solar 8th house.  The 8th house is traditionally associated with death, taxes, and other people’s money. Mercury in Scorpio likes to dig deep and in the 8th house, it likes to dig even deeper.  You may notice that your conversations with others are more intense than normal including mysterious subjects that may intrigue you. Since Mercury is retrograde, joint finances may become an issue including coming up with a plan to make them better.

Taurus: Mercury is going retrograde in your solar 7th house. Relationships (of all sorts) will be your primary focus during Mercury retrograde.  Old partners may resurface and need to be dealt with or problems beneath the surface of your relationships may need to be addressed.  Further, this is not the best time for you to get involved with anyone new, so avoid investing in anyone that comes on the scene until Mercury goes direct on November 20th.

Gemini:  Mercury will retrograde in your solar 6th house.  You may need to put a watch on your tongue because you may be more critical than usual, and this could lead to complication and potential problems especially on the job or with work-related matters.  Since the 6th house governs our work environment, this would be a good time to resolve any long-standing issues and grievances – just remember to keep your ego out of it.

Cancer: Mercury will retrograde in your solar 5th house.  Traditionally, the 5th house governs children, romance, and casual sexual encounters.  I would recommend avoiding the later since Scorpio is associated with diseases, and who wants one of those?  However, it is a good time to explore your romantic life and whether you are getting your needs met out of your encounters. Issues with your children or children in general surface during this retrograde season.

Leo: Home is where the heart is, and this will prove to be true as Mercury retrogrades your solar 4th house.  You may feel the need to withdraw in order to recharge your batteries, and you may feel drained, both physically and emotionally. Issues surrounding your immediate family members may surface during this retrograde season, yet despite frustrations and annoyances, this gives you an opportunity to repair familial relationships. If problems from the past resurface, deal with them rationally and responsibly so that they no longer influence your future.

Virgo: Mercury will retrograde in your solar 3rd house. In astrology, Mercury naturally rules the 3rd house so you may feel the usual problems associated with the retrograde more intensely.  Worries and anxiety may leave you feeling scattered and your ability to focus may be limited during retrograde season.  It’s also recommended that you avoid travel because complications may occur. On a more positive note, this cycle could prove useful if you need to get facts and ideas together for business-related activities once Mercury goes direct on November 20th.  Make your plan so you can implement it effectively.

Libra: Mercury will retrograde in your solar 2nd house and financial concerns will walk onto the stage. This is a great time for you to analyze your financial situation and get a clear perspective on how to proceed moving forward.  Further, new financial investments or purchases are not recommended until Mercury goes direct.  If someone owes you money, they may be more likely to repay you this retrograde season or further delays could possibly occur.

Scorpio: Mercury will retrograde in your solar 1st house.  This retrograde season could prove to be more frustrating than usual.  You may feel deeply misunderstood and have difficulty expressing yourself to others, and this could lead to unwanted insecurities surfacing.  Since the 1st house governs how you see the world, Mercury being retrograde could lead to a fragmented view of reality. However, this is a positive time to explore yourself on deeper levels and reveal potentials that may ordinarily be hidden.

Sagittarius: Mercury will retrograde in your solar 12th house. Like your Leo brethren, retrograde season may be a time to withdraw and do some inner work. You may not feel the need to express yourself to others and may not want to be encumbered by other people’s problems or realities. Meditation and spiritual work are strongly recommended.  Further, avoid old grievances with adversaries during this retrograde cycle because nothing good will come out of dredging up the past.

Capricorn: Mercury will retrograde in your solar 11th house. In astrology, the 11th house is associated with friends and groups. During retrograde season you may need to look at your social network and decide if you are getting your needs met.  If your circle is not feeding any of your personal needs, then you may need to adjust them accordingly when Mercury goes direct.  Further, communications with friends and associates could prove to be problematic. Avoid unnecessary conflicts and arguments throughout retrograde season.  Practice proaction rather than reaction.

Aquarius: Mercury will retrograde in your solar 10th house. In astrology, the 10th house governs career and reputation.  During this retrograde season, you may need to look at the current state of your career and make adjustments when they are necessary.  It may also be time to look at new career opportunities and changing positions, locations, or even your profession. However, do not make any abrupt changes because you may ultimately regret them or potentially damage your reputation.  Although it’s fine to plan during retrograde season, make changes after Mercury goes direct.

Pisces:  Ordinarily, Mercury in your solar 9th house tells you to look at the big picture rather than the day-to-day events or frustrations.  However, when retrograde season occurs in your 9th house, it’s time to take your eye off the prize and pay close attention to details that may prevent you from getting to your goal.  Additionally, at this time, you may feel more pessimistic and moodier than you usually would.  Avoid foreign travel if possible until Mercury goes direct on November 20th.

It’s going to be a slow week in the cosmos, which may be a welcomed relief for some.  We have two sign changes, one planetary aspect, and a planetary directional change.

So, the big newsmaker is Mercury turning direct in Pisces on March 28th, and based upon my social media feeds, and for many, it couldn’t happen any sooner.  It’s been a rough retrograde, but let me tell you a secret, I hear that every Mercury retrograde.

Mercury turning direct means that communication difficulties will improve but will take until April 17th to be completely resolved.  However, the matters that Mercury retrograde befuddles – travel plans, electronic devices, making important decisions, purchases, and moving forward with plans can proceed.

On a more personal level, you need to review the last three weeks and see if any themes kept repeating, so you can make changes where they are necessary.  Journaling work and talking through issues with a trusted friend or confidant can be helpful when working through issues Mercury retrograde dredged to the surface.

Cosmic Weather Forecast – March 11, 2019 – March 17, 2019

So, I am sure that you are going to get sick of hearing two words by the end of March – Mercury retrograde.

Of course, most people know what happens during Mercury’s retrograde status because it has seeped into pop-culture and has become part of our everyday vocabulary.   For those of you that are not aware, look at this list:

  1. Potential communication issues
  2. Do not sign documents, move, or make firm decisions
  3. Electronics may become problematic, especially computers and cell phones.
  4. Possible automobile issues.
  5. Travel issues and concerns.

That is some list, isn’t it?  But don’t fret Mercury retrograde can be used as a positive tool and with Mercury making several aspects this week, it’s a great time to work with him rather than against him.

In mythology, Mercury played several roles, but the two most important were messenger of the gods and the psychopomp that ushered the souls of the dead into the underworld.  Psychologically, you could say that Mercury rules the process of the conscious mind, the process of the unconscious becoming conscious, and all the processes in between.

During this retrograde cycle pay close attention to your dreams, fantasies, and the areas where Mercury is causing chaos because it will hold the keys to the areas of your life where attention may be required.  Ultimately, by actively encouraging the unconscious to become conscious, Mercury retrograde may help you level up and begin a new cycle in your life.
